The Photographer Wolfgang Prinz

Wolfgang met me when I had bought my first German camera. He helped me get started photographing and introduced me to the great German photographer Herbert Tobias, with whom Wolfgang had trained.

I was in Berlin on a German Government Grant as an orchestra conductor. But never one to do anything halfway, I wanted the opportunity to work in photography in a real studio and Wolfgang offered that opportunity. We became partners in a studio, with Wolfgang doing the mainstay work and me not only having access to the studio, but able to learn from an experienced photographer.

But there are no coincidences in life, and Wolfgang, who was not one to stay in one place long, went to Paris after half a year or so, leaving me with the studio.

Here, the elf-like Wolfgang is silhouetted in the large north-Light window of our studio.
