One of my early, pre-Messraster focusing photos. The use of contrast and artistic license works with the unsharpness of the photo and makes lemonade out of a lemon. This type of masking of faults of focus was rampant back then, and still is done.

At least here, the image conforms to the subject, which is a "take" on a sketch by the NYC artist Jerome Goodman, from the 50s. I still have that sketch somewhere.
