Miriam Solovieff

These photos are of Miriam Solovieff in Julius Katchen's studio in the early-mid 60's. The magnificent violinist Solovieff recorded a good part of the Brahms Violin and Piano Sonatas with Julius Katchen and then had a breakdown that ended the session. While there are private tapes and copy CD's around, the sessions were never released commercially. Katchen brought me to Paris to photograph the sessions. I stayed at his studio, as usual, and also studied with Nadia Boulanger and Annette Dieudonne while I was not photographing, as I had done before.

Miriam and I got along particularly well and I took some films of her alone, without Katchen, while they were working. So far, only one of the rolls of films of Miriam has shown up and some contact prints of Katchen and Miriam together. These are from that one intact roll of film.
