This all-too magnificent photo of Nixon happened almost by accident:
The Berlin Hilton Hotel was beginning to age and lose appeal. So a new
director was brought in to run it. And I was assigned to a reporter to
do a reportage for a German Magazine.
That director (standing behind Nixon) turned out to be dud, as far as
photographing was concerned. Almost lifeless.
But luckily, Nixon showed up for a Berlin visit just while I was
taking the photos, and he graciously agreed to pose for the reportage.
It would have saved the day, except that, after this photo, someone remembered that the director loved horses. So a horse was brought to the hotel and I got a sensational photo of the director riding it, which is in the Historic Berlin section of this site.
