What saved fashion photography for me was the way I decided to do
it: little was predetermined, unless absolutely necessary. We went out ready for anything and let happen what happened. Pretty much
always, something happened!
Here, we not only came across a biker with a cat on the handlebars of
his bike, to reflect the dress's pattern, but a bird settled down on
the model's shoulder, quite unexpectedly.
What really freed me was the Messraster focusing device: the accurate
focusing allowed me to use 35mm cameras when others were using medium
and, more often, large format camerass, which did not allow much
spontaneity at all. This fun photo, scanned from an old print, would
never have been possible without the Messraster.
